Thank you for being here. Thank you for understanding me, or at least sticking around long enough to try.
I am having a really hard time because no one around me seems to understand my POV and sometimes that leads to big feelings of loneliness. But I feel alone because the feelings this is bringing up take me back to a time of extreme loneliness.
My amazing friend Krystal reminded me earlier that willful ignorance is always going to be around us, and that not everyone wants to change. That hit home— but what REALLY hit home was when she said this:
“I myself, am not always open to change, so I can’t hold anyone else’s feet to the fire against it.”
EDIT: I also think there’s a difference between willful ignorance and not knowing. If you’re willing to have the conversations, come to a common ground- or at least a civil place of disagreement, you probably just don’t know my perspective. If you don’t try to have those conversations, it says to me that you aren’t interested in change or hearing me out.
So I’m going to take a beat, let emotions die down. Work through the past traumas this has brought to the forefront and move forward. We’re going to change the world one way or another.
